This weekend has seen the immensely successful release of Marvel’s latest franchise entry, and people are going crazier for it than catnip. With the second highest opening weekend box office behind only The Avengers, Black Panther has already had a dramatic impact on the world. Having now seen the film twice, myself, I can attest that it is really something special. Emotional, exciting, gorgeous, and groundbreaking. This film is going to grow in our estimation in the years to come. Each of the actors gives a compelling, full arc that informs their actions and positions in a timely story that speaks both specifically and universally about where our society is, and why. If you haven’t already, you need to see this film on the big screen.
Given those box office numbers I mentioned, it’s safe to say whoever is reading these words has seen the film. This is a place to come discuss Ryan Coogler’s explosive new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but be warned: Here there be spoilers. Turn back right meow, if you’re worried about them, because we’ll be batting spoilers around like a toy on a string. Then probably laying in direct sunlight on the floor somewhere after grooming for about 30 minutes. Suffice to say, the comments will be littered with spoilers.
