Welcome to FLEET WEEK(END)!

Welcome one and all to our ongoing Fleet Week series here at Lewton Bus! For those not aware, Fleet Week is a celebration of our armed forces, service members, and naval tradition in particular leading up to Memorial Day.

Fleet Week has been around for decades, taking place in various forms and locations all across America. For many years, one of the biggest celebrations had taken place in my home of New York City, with a multitude of special events occurring all over town. However, as you are well aware, the COVID-19 pandemic has put a halt to many aspects of society, among them large social gatherings.

As such, the Fleet Week events in my home and across the nation have been cancelled.

In light of these developments, I considered cancelling our own celebration here on Lewton Bus. More significantly, I experienced recent tragedy in my family, and I wasn’t sure if I was up to this task mentally and emotionally. However, I remembered that writing has always been there for me as a therapeutic outlet, and I knew I couldn’t keep myself in a mental rut. Just the same, my online friends and cadre of fellow writers have become increasingly active in the development of Fleet Week articles; they support my emotional well-being with condolences and they support my love for film with insights I would never consider on my own. This is as much theirs as it is mine, and we can truly only get through this together.

And so, the show must go on!

Having said that, I do have to face the logistical realities of the pandemic and its effects on our publishing timeline.

As such, I will be truncating what would normally be a week long celebration into a short series of articles that you can read over this Memorial Day weekend. That said, if inspiration strikes us and we get more great ideas from the staff and readers, we will certainly keep the party going through next week.

Thank you all for your continued support, and I hope you enjoy what’s coming down the pipe. Remember, you can comment here or reach us on social media if you have any requests, suggestions, or if you want to pitch an article that you think would be suitable for Fleet Week! We will get through this together. Peace.
