Black Panther is right around the corner, and to keep our anxiety under control while the early reactions pop out, Marvel Studios has graced us with the first Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer. It’s an utter delight.
The biggest takeaway here is the neat and graceful action, which is reminiscent of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (arguably the Marvel movie with the best fight choreography) — all perfectly complimented with a fist-pumping musical selection (Ants Invasion by Adam & The Ants) and pitch perfect editing. Not to mention the somewhat grounded and rough around the edges vibe of the scenarios where the characters find themselves in.
Ant-Man stood out thanks to its weird sense of imagination and humor, and this one doesn’t seem to be holding itself back in that department. How can you look at a Hello Kitty Pez dispenser being used as a weapon and not smile? Or Hank Pym shrinking a building to carry like a travel bag.
The winning trio of Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly display fun chemistry and promise more memorable banter. All in all, it looks like the ideal small-scale flick for taking a breath after the presumably game-changing events in Avengers: Infinity War.
Ant-Man and the Wasp will hit theaters on July 6, 2018.
