The Trailer for MANDY is Phantasmagoric Madness

This Movie Looks Metal As F**k

Hot off of its acclaimed run at the 2018 Sundance film Festival, today the general public is treated to its first glimpses at the incredible revenge horror film Mandy, starring Nicholas Cage and Andrea Riseborough. The premise hints at the madness present in these outstanding visuals:

Pacific Northwest. 1983 AD. Outsiders Red Miller and Mandy Bloom lead a loving and peaceful existence.

When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with fire.

Enough talk. Behold:

Director Panos Cosmatos is known for his 2010 film Beyond The Black Rainbow, a uniquely psychedelic mind-bending experience. It appears that Mandy will be adding a hardcore dose of gore and grime into that formula, and I can’t wait. Also, a word of full disclosure: I am good friends with Mandy co-writer Aaron Stewart-Ahn, a Brooklyn-based filmmaker and photographer who has his hand in both fiction writing and documentaries. I couldn’t have possibly imagined that the secret project he hinted at years ago would yield such an incredible work of art.

I am proud to know a talented and hard working Asian-American like Aaron is achieving great success in the film industry, when so much of it can be stacked against marginalized people.

Nevertheless, even without the personal connection or knowledge of his background, the trailer for Mandy is absolutely captivating and would be very high on my most anticipated movie list no matter what. We’ll see what the film has in store for us when it hits theaters on September 14th.
