Never Say Never Again (Again)

Multiple sources including Variety are reporting that Daniel Craig has agreed to reprise his role as James Bond in the upcoming installment in the franchise. This comes as a surprise to many as Craig was previously reported saying that he would rather “slash his wrists” than play Bond again. In related news, director Christopher Nolan has confirmed that he has been approached to direct the next Bond film. However, as of publishing nothing has been confirmed in regards to him joining on.

“A Bond movie, definitely,” Nolan said in an interview with Playboy. I’ve spoken to the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over the years. I deeply love the character, and I’m always excited to see what they do with it. Maybe one day that would work out. You’d have to be needed, if you know what I mean. It has to need reinvention; it has to need you. And they’re getting along very well.”

There are also reports that Barbara Broccoli has been trying to persuade Adele to sing the them for the upcoming film, which would be her second time singing for the franchise.

With Daniel Craig returning what kind of Bond film would you like to see?Would a return to the lighter, schlock filled style of the earlier films be a fun departure that allows Craig to explore the character in a different way? Or do you think he is better suited for the more grounded and serious version of the character? Could a Craig and Nolan team up be what the franchise needs after the less than stellar reception of Spectre? Let us know in the comments below!

  • I like the idea of Nolan doing a Bond. He has the chops as far as big big big damn films with tons of impossible practical stunts and the like. It’s arguably a good time, contrary to his statement they definitely are not getting along just fine right now. Not after “Spectre.” I imagine Nolan doing something akin to “Skyfall” which isn’t perfect but not for lack of trying.

I just can’t shake the idea that a Nolan Bond would slip too far into Bourne territory. I mean, let’s be real, part of what the franchise has going for it is the sex appeal and that’s the number one thing that is missing from pretty much every Nolan joint.

      • The DC & Marvel fan

You could argue that Quantum of Solace is the one that slipped far into Bourne territory (it blatantly takes some beats from Supremacy).

The Daniel Craig era has a lot of Nolan influence, so the idea of getting him to direct a Bond movie feels redundant at this point.

As for Craig himself, well, he’s amazing, but I fear that he might be overstaying his welcome (to put things in perspective, he’s the same age as Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day). But if he has to go back, I prefer if he stayed in the same concept of his first three movies, since the goofy uncle Bond routine doesn’t suit him.

Nothing against Adele, but I was rooting for a Lana del Rey song.

    • Lets do a goth Bond film, bring in Chelsea Wolfe for theme duties

    • heh, I was joking but I actually really love that idea 😀
