THE SHAPE OF WATER Trailer is All Wet

Drink in this new trailer from Guillermo del Toro

I’m in it for life with Guillermo del Toro. Even his less beloved films (Pacific Rim and, weirdly, the sumptuous Crimson Peak) are gorgeous, hypnotic affairs. It appears that The Shape of Water is no exception – I mean, look at this new trailer! He loves his monsters!

Vaguely threatening Michael Shannon is a wonderful thing. The story appears to feature a bizarro sort of love story with Doug Jones back in deep cover as a creepy blend of Abe Sapien and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. It just doesn’t get much more Guillermo del Toro than this. I for one can’t wait.

Some of the Lewton Bus gang also observed recently this new trend of cutting trailers to musical rhythms. It’s obvious and a little silly, but a step up from the years-old convention of dropping terrible power ballads into trailers.

  • I’m so in. But the fact that this isn’t the first Universal “Dark Universe” movie makes me really sad

  • Andrew Clark

I for one love a good power ballad in a trailer.
