I am not a patient man. It’s been too long since we’ve gotten a new motion picture out of the brilliant Edgar Wright.
The World’s End was way back in 2013 (Did we even have cellphones back then?) and in the intervening years we saw him jump ship from Marvel’s Ant-Man. I need my regular dose of character-centric, extremely well-crafted comedic genre cinema, so I am beyond pumped that Baby Driver is almost upon us. Sure, I think it’s weird that the material he chose was a Boss Baby spinoff about Alec Baldwin’s infant limousine driver, but I’ll take what I can get. Let’s check out the new trailer!
Huh. Well, that’s what I get for making assumptions. It turns out Baby Driver is a (musical) heist film centered around a getaway driver! Boy, do I feel foolish. But, man, this trailer’s got the goods.
With its kinetic visual style, humor, and pop cultural awareness, it feels as Edgar Wright-y as a trailer can get without involving a Cornetto somehow. And that cast! I can’t wait.
