It took a while, but the trailer for the movie formerly known as Untitled Avengers Sequel is here. Contrary to some reports, it does have new footage. And yes, it does say what the title is, but let’s keep that particular mystery box closed until you’ve seen the trailer.
So, now the cat’s out of the bag; Avengers: Endgame isn’t the most exciting title in the world – and definitely not one worthy of such extensive mystery boxing as the Russo’s have partaken in, if you ask me – but it does fit very well with the sense of finality this trailer brings to the table. Tony’s sobering declaration that “part of the journey is the end” and Steve’s note of quiet desperation before the title reveal are pretty grim moments to anchor this kind of blockbuster trailer on.
While there are some cool bits of new information, like Clint Barton in full Ronin regalia, most of this trailer is light on stuff we didn’t already know about, but that’s not too big a deal. The next couple of months – especially once Captain Marvel is out in the world – will likely be a non-stop bombardment of Endgame related content. This is primed to be one of the biggest films of all time, after all. So I for one don’t mind that Marvel has started this campaign with a relatively small and uneventful trailer.
Avengers: Endgame was scheduled for States-side release May 3rd, but as the end of the trailer promises, it will now release in April — the 26th to be exact, the same weekend Avengers: Infinity War was released this year. Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below!
