Cinema Chance Cube, Episode 22: STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME

Oops! All Adams!

This piece is going up as we enter our first day after the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman. Lewton Bus will be addressing this event soon, but for now we want to keep our regularly scheduled content moving. At this moment, let it suffice to say that this is an enormous loss to us all, and that he will be missed.

Rest in Power, Chadwick.

IT FINALLY HAPPENED.

TREK HAS ENTERED THE CUBE.

All it took was a guest who was willing to literally stack the deck in favor of the best Sci-Fi franchise. This week, we were joined by Lewton Bus contributor Adam Bumas, who did us one of many favors by selecting this gleeful, hopeful jewel in the crown of Trek.

In this episode, we talk about the strangeness of the fourth entry in this film series, one that barely engages with the established iconography thereof, becoming a runaway smash hit and thereby reinvigorating the franchise. We also digress at length into nerdy tangents (not all of which are Trek-related), brush up on our fan-fic, and let Adam loose with his very best Tom Hardy impression. Most importantly, however:

Adam is a wonderful guest, and we had an outstanding time with him. You’re not going to want to miss it. The other films that “The Whale Movie” beat out — thus proving that Fate is not stronger than Trek — included:

  • Star Trek: The Motion Picture
  • Star Trek: Generations
  • Star Trek: First Contact
  • Star Trek Into Darkness
  • Big Night

It’s a rambunctious, silly time, and we think you’ll have a blast.

We also hope that you might take a moment to help the MADE, which Shannon has mentioned a few times. These times are very hard on anyone operating a physical space, and the MADE is no exception, as they’ve been forced to temporarily shut down, with hopes of reopening in a new location in the future.

We, and they, appreciate it.

As always, thanks for listening, and we hope you enjoy.
